Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by chair Rainville. Motion was made (Prondzinski), seconded (Evans) and carried to approve agenda. Motion was made (Prondzinski), seconded (Evans) and carried to approve April minutes.
Information-only presentation on proposed 20-22 unit independent senior (55 and up) living facility, Peter Nasseff Maronite Home, on property owned by St. Maron's Church was made by ESG Architects' David Graham and Monsignor Maroun. Three homes are now on the site. Rezoning to R5 will be needed. Project will be three stories, facing Second Street NE, with underground parking. Goal is for groundbreaking in fall 2008. Presenters will return to June STAWNO meeting with more details and request for support.
Committee Reports:
Farmers Market opens June 7 with pancake breakfast. Working on sponsorships. 20 vendors so far are signed on.
Outreach and Fundraising: Annual Autumn Eve event will be Oct. 4 at Elsie's. 5K walk/run will be Sept. 27. STAWNO will have two beverage tents at Stone Arch Festival June 14-15 as fundraiser; will have organizing meeting June 5.
NRP Phase II task force met tonight; will meet again next Thursday, 6:30 p.m. here. Details of 2008 Community Cohesion block grants were discussed and approved by consensus. Will do maximum of 5 @ $200 each. Deadline is June 15. Must be recognized as Second Precinct block club in this neighborhood. If approved for grant, receipts due by Aug. 1. Details on Web site.
Crime, Safety, Livability: Precinct open house is May 12. Crime is down. Prondzinski will bring statistics next month. Cops on Bikes foot patrol begins end of month. 311 Walking Patrol begins May 28, 6:30 p.m. at NE Yacht Club. Motion was made (Hofstede), seconded (Greffin) and carried to allocate $250 for t-shirts for new walkers and Stone Arch beverage booth volunteers. St. Maron's Church youth club will adopt University Avenue for trash pick-up; still seeking word from St. John's Church re: Broadway.
Land Use and Planning: No report. “City Pages” article on changes at 1101 Main St. NE was noted.
B.F. Nelson: Next meeting is June 2, 7 p.m., possibly on boat or in tent by riverside ticket booth.
Motion was made (Evans), seconded (Greffin) and carried to accept recommendation from Tony Hofstede, Above the Falls committee representative, to send letter supporting Option 3 (AFCAC expands, is renamed to represent entire riverfront and serve as citizens advisory council to new public-private riverfront corporation). Above the Falls plan would be first in line for implementation. Meeting is May 27 at park board building.
Rainville volunteered to check on B.F. Nelson site nomination for Hennepin History Museum display project.
Motion was made (Hofstede), seconded and carried to donate $200 to Northeast Parade this year.
Financial reports were discussed.
Request was made for minutes one week, preferably two weeks, prior to board meeting.
