Meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by chair Michael Rainville. Motion was made (Tony Hofstede), seconded (Jerry Evans) and carried to approve agenda. Motion was made (T. Hofstede), seconded (Todd Parker) and carried to approve April minutes. Treasurer Pete Gamades reviewed the financial report.
Election: Ben Grans-Korsh was nominated and approved as student representative to board. The following were nominated and approved for officer positions on the board of directors:
Rochelle Prondzinski - secretary
Pete Gamades - treasurer
Tony Hofstede - vie chair
Michael Rainville - chair
Open Forum: 1) Superior Plating has lots of graffiti. Call 311 to report this and for other city issues that are not emergencies. 2) It was suggested the meeting start a half hour earlier for an informal open forum/socializing, then the board meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Motion was made (Bob Margl), seconded (T. Hofstede) and carried to try this informal gathering of the community from 7-7:30 p.m. 3) Speeding on Marshall is a problem. Bridge work should help calm traffic for a while. 4) There's lots of garbage around neighborhood. 5) Block club wants donation to get “crime watch” type signs. Rochelle Prondzinski will get costs and report back with details. 6) How about an electronic speed sign? City's public works not really in favor of them. Marshall Terrace neighborhood paid for theirs. Rainville will check with Public Works on status. 7) Restorative Justice Coalition wants to know if selected neighborhoods including STAWNO are interested in seeing the program expand to their communities. Details were discussed. RJCA is doing needs assessment and is not looking for STAWNO money. Motion was made (T. Hofstede), seconded (Prondzinski) and carried to relay to RJCA STAWNO's interest in seeing the program expand to St. Anthony West.
Committee Housekeeping:
Prondzinski agreed to continue as 2PAC liaison.
Gamades will chair Fundraising/Outreach committee, with Bob Margl as co-chair.
Bob Margl and Dan Brady will co-chair NRP Task Force as well as Newsletter Task Force.
Denise Bryn will chair B.F. Nelson Committee.
Dan Brady and Jerry Evans will serve as liaisons to Farmers Market
Meg Beekman will chair Land Use and Planning Committee.
Rainville and Prondzinski will co-chair Crime, Safety and Livability Committee.
Rainville is organizing the new “311 Patrol.” Motion made, seconded and carried to spend up to $200 for t-shirts for patrollers. Walking will start May 1 at 6:30 p.m. and go each Tuesday rain or shine unless Northeast Yacht Club relays cancellation message. Meet at Yacht Club parking lot area. Mission is to walk, build camaraderie, find out about the neighborhood, be nonaggressive walking group, report problems to 311 if they are noticed. Goal will be to pick up trash; SuperAmerica gave OK to deposit trash in its dumpsters.
Committee operations protocol sheet was reviewed/reiterated.
Committees should get six-month schedule of meeting dates to office so that it can be posted on Web site, communicated to neighborhood. Let staff know before next month's meeting what your committee's schedule will be.
Fundraiser is Sept. 29.
Will also put newsletter on Web when it is published. Will continue to do ads in Northeaster, too. Staff posts on Web site - it is not open to all posters like a blog.
Verbal committee updates were received from Crime, Safety and Livability Committee, B.F. Nelson, Fundraising/Outreach and NRP. No actions requested. Land Use Committee plans to meet first Monday of the month. Best Buy finance team will bring 200 volunteers to riverfront/Boom Island area this spring for clean-up. Next NRP meeting is April 16.
Council Member Diane Hofstede said city council will be taking up discussion of community engagement in couple of
weeks. Need to track this issue. Process is evolving.
Upcoming newsletter, name and protocol was discussed. People are welcome to submit articles. Name needs to reflect/incorporate “St. Anthony West Neighborhood Organization.” Motion was made (T. Hofstede), seconded and carried to take a look at draft stories on web site www.1and1.com and discuss at next meeting. Executive committee will need to approve copy for each issue.
Problem properties were discussed, and Gap program intentions were debated. There is $120,000-150,000 available in Gap program via Greater Metropolitan Housing Corp. (GHMC). Motion was made (Prondzinski), seconded (T. Hofstede) and carried (with 2 no votes) to give GMHC go-ahead to start moving toward trying to acquire one of the houses in question and to authorize the use of GAP money to be used in conjunction with it. Land Use Committee may convene half hour before next STAWNO meeting.
Rainville will have Ritz Theater contact Prondzinski regarding difficulties getting info on kids' programs.
Sheila Biernat presented details of “Coast to Coast” walking program.
Margl encouraged all to join block clubs.
CM Hofstede's CARE committee meets next week.
